According to recent research by a leading women-only motor insurer, 6 out of 10 women will have fallen off their New Year’s resolution wagon by January 6th, while most men will have thrown in the towel by the 12th.
If you’re one of the many who hasn’t managed to stick to your boiled-egg-and-grapefruit diet, or has spent the last 10 days on a protein-only diet fantasising about carbs, then I prescribe a healthy dose of my “Asian penicillin” Just as any bout of illness always sees me yearning for a warming, comforting bowl of Jewish penicillin (aka chicken soup), whenever I’ve been partying too hard or just eating really badly, I always turn to this cleansing and nourishing recipe.
Packed with zingy Asian sweet / salt / hot / sour flavours, you simply poach a chicken with herbs and spices giving you a deliciously fragrant stock and perfectly moist chicken. The stock can then be drunk as a simple broth, or used as the base for an Asian-style chicken noodle soup, while the chicken goes into a fantastic green salad with a stunning herb dressing.
Apart from the fact that it’s all so easy to make and you get at least three meals from one chicken (good time to upgrade to organic), it tastes incredibly cleansing and you just know its doing you good!
